Something I do on a regular basis is add new widgets to wordpress sites so they are easier to maintain. The code that is needed is listed below.

1) First add this to your function.php
if ( function_exists(‘register_sidebar’) )
register_sidebar(array(

‘id’ => sidebar1′,
‘name’ => ‘Sidebar1’,
‘before_widget’ => ”,
‘after_widget’ => ”,
‘before_title’ => ‘<h2>’,
‘after_title’ => ‘</h2>’,
));
register_sidebar(array(
‘id’ => sidebar2′,
‘name’ => ‘Sidebar2’,
‘before_widget’ => ”,
‘after_widget’ => ”,
‘before_title’ => ‘<h2>’,
‘after_title’ => ‘</h2>’,
));

2) Create a the sidebar pages

I named my sidebar1.php and sidebar2.php

This is what my code looks like for sidebar1.php.

<div>

<?php if ( !function_exists(‘dynamic_sidebar’) || !dynamic_sidebar(‘sidebar1’) ) : ?>
<?php endif; ?>

</div> <!– end #sidebar –>

3) Put this code on the template where you want the sidebar to appear

<?php include(“sidebar1.php”); ?>
